Angel Crush Series By Violette L. Meier
Taking the time to go to my second Dragon Con ever in my life (Dragon Con 2025), I went into the Vendor hall on a mission to look for as much interesting media as I could possibly find by creators of color.
Somehow, I came across a booth with a whole line of Black Authors, which instantly caught my attention since that was exactly what I was looking for, and they were all together. This booth is where I met the marvelous Mrs. Violette L. Meier, one of my new favorite authors.
I bought a bunch of books from all the authors at the table, and had wonderful conversations with all of them about their bodies of work, and their interest in Afro-furism. But this post is specifically about her Angel Crush series that I just finished reading, and absolutely adored.
Reading these books one after the other was perfect. I am truly delighted that I bought the whole series at once, or I would’ve been devastated by the cliffhangers. Now, I will try and summarize what I’ve read without spoiling all the wonderful gems hidden inside these novels, but if at any point you start to get interested. I suggest you just go ahead and purchase the novels yourself.

Angel Crush
Angel Crush follows Sadie Convington, a beautiful, well-educated, not deeply spiritual woman, who is happily engaged to the love of her life, James Tucker. They are so in love that they are abstaining from sex until their marriage.
Until she started being harassed and sexually assaulted by the fallen angel Turiel, who has apparently fallen for her and wants her to bear his child. Whether she wants to or not.
Burdened by the sudden attacks, Sadie runs to her father, Mr. Covington, who is well-versed in religion and the supernatural. He tries his best to help her daughter overcome this disgusting, lustful demon, but to no avail. She gets pregnant with the fallen angel’s child, which causes her fiancé to leave her. Her father, afraid that she will give birth to some kind of demon, urges Sadie to take care of it before it ruins the Earth.
Sadie calls her best friend, the eccentric Sky, to stay with her in hopes of keeping Turiel away and having someone to comfort her through her sufferings without judgment. Even if her friend did not truly know what was going on.
In the end, Sadie ends up birthing the child of an angel, a Nephilim, and finding a way to reconcile with her true love, James. They get happily married, because he loves her so much, he takes their new son Khalid under his wing as his own.
Son of the Rock
Sadie Tucker has been happily married for 8 years with James Tucker. They produced one son, Uriel, who happens to have an interesting fascination with God. Khalid is 8 years old now, and his parents can’t help but notice that there was something a little off with the child.
Khalid seemed to have barely any emotions and a huge problem discerning right from wrong. He was 8 years old and already way taller than other kids his age, so smart that he jumped up 2 grade levels ahead, and so handsome, he looked like his late grandfather more and more every day. Everyone seemed to love him; he excelled in all his classes, and no matter what, he seemed to get his way. Which is why when people around him didn’t follow his instructions, they tended to be injured, or worse, die. It worries Sadie, who is sure that he is a demon spawn.
Meanwhile, Uriel, their second-born son, who was just 6, had an interesting relationship with God. Even more interesting since Sadie and James Tucker were so unreligious that they were basically atheists. The young child kept insisting that God was speaking to him, and he prayed religiously every single day. All the books and shows he liked to consume happened to be about God, the Bible, and Jesus.
When things start being weird in the Tucker household, with Mrs. Ebbie Covington acting weird, almost like she’s possessed. Isolating herself from her family (Except for Khalid), not doing the things she usually does, and having a weird and inappropriate fascination with Sadie.
Sadie invited her pregnant best friend, Sky Cohen, and her family: her husband, Forrest Cohen, her daughters, Earth and Venus, and her son Jupiter, to come stay with them for a while.
The children seem to get along, while some of them of wary of Khalid and his dangerous demeanor, Venus takes an instant liking to him. Uriel and Earth grow a bond over the beliefs of the supernatural. Earth seems to see things that she isn’t supposed to, just like Uriel does.
As more supernatural things go on, their husbands refuse to believe them. Sadie, enlist the help of a charming doctor well-versed in the supernatural, Dr. Ari Aniwodi-El. Along with her best friend, Sky, the three of them work to figure out what is going on in the Tucker household.
Archfiend
Khalid Tucker is 16 and going off to college now. His mother is very sad about his departure, but secretly, they are a little excited for some normalcy to come back into their lives.
8 years since the incident at the Tucker household that cost Mrs. Ebbie Covington her life. Khalid went on a spree of terror in his neighborhood, causing his parents to age with the stress of raising him.
Uriel is sad to see his brother go because he loves him more than anything, even if he was a little weird and dangerous. They were like two halves that evened each other out. Uriel wouldn’t let Khalid get too dark, and Khalid wouldn’t let Uriel get too light.
As Khalid gets adjusted to college life, he is uncomfortable with his creepy roommate, who has a stench like death and seems to watch him wherever he goes. He was also worried because he hadn’t seen his father in over a decade since Turiel possessed his late grandmother, and caused her death.
Sadie and James Tucker are getting back into a romantic lifestyle where they don’t have to worry about the supernatural and can just focus on loving each other. It’d been a long time since the passion was in their relationship, but with Khalid out of the house, that was a start.
Sky Cohen is living in New York with her family when she is diagnosed with an illness, then she decides it’s time to return to Atlanta to be by her best friend, Sadie Tucker, since she might not have much time left.
Khalil realizes that his roommate Belial is a demon who is more than he seems. He gets into more than he bargains for, and now, he was feeling real fear for the first time in his life. Fear that his nephilim powers can’t save him from.
Review
I personally loved this series. The flow of Violette L. Meier’s writing reminds me of one of my favorite authors, Omar Tyree. Very descriptive, full of color, and really painting a scene.
Her characters truly seem thought out, like they all have their own personality. Even in the way minor characters get a whole first and last name, and a little bit of backstory. Even if those characters don’t play a huge role in the series.
My personal opinion is that I was annoyed with the main characters/ parents of the story. Sadie, James, Sky, and Forrest kept on irritating me throughout the 2nd and 3rd novels because they refused to listen to their children. Whenever something happened, usually the children were the first to notice, and the parents would ignore them until the issue was too severe. But, I found that to be so realistic, it showed the flaws of the characters, because these characters were definitely flawed, and relatable.
There was so much packed into these stories. The dealings with the after effects of trauma, first love, long-lasting marriages, and the ups and downs of marriage. It also showed how sometimes terrible things can happen, but it won’t be the end of the world. There was perseverance. Lives were still lived and filled with joy. Truly, these books were so good that I am not even doing them justice in my description. I am leaving out so many key details in trying not to spoil too much.
Now, I will issue a trigger warning for the first book, especially. When the main character gets assaulted by the angel, with the vivid picture painted, it might make some people uncomfortable. Through the rest of the books, the trauma does stay with our main character, but is no longer described as it was in the first novel.
Violette L. Meier has a fan out of me. I am currently exploring the rest of her books to see what I can read from her next, and I am looking forward to her publishing more books in the future.
